Plot outline: A Nightmare on Elm Street is about a child molesteror (Freddy Kreuger) who works at pre school. The parents of the school children found kreuger and burned him. He appears in all their nightmares and murders them.Resulting in their real death in reality.

Which two scenes impressed you the most? Why?
The first scene that impressed me most was the supermarket scene where Nancy is attacked. The use of sound effects and parallel music lets you know that something bad is going to happen. The scene is made up of a montage of quick shots and constantly cut from Nancy being attacked in reality to Freddy attacking her in the dream. This collision cutting is very impressive as it makes each cut seem more intense and the shots from the nightmare seem more frightening.

How has watching this film helped you understand this genre of film making? Which film makers features on the genre checklist did you spot in the film? When? How?
Watching this film has helped me to understand this genre of film making as it uses the majority of of techniques and theories that a typical horror film would have. I noticed in the film that the prettiest girl (Kris Fowles) dies in the first part of the film. When she is killed by Freddy she is also in bed with a boy making her look sexulaised. This shows that she is a typical 'female victim'. Her death is also the most brutal. The film ends with Nancy: the stereotypical 'final girl' defeating Freddy the killer by dragging him into reality. There is also a lot of gore (body horror) in this movie. The most graphic scene put there to make the audience shudder is when Kris 'female victim' slowly rises up form the bed. This slow editing builds tension. The audience suddenly jumps when she is sliced in half by Freddy's blade embedded hand. An excessive amount of realistic gore and bloods spurts out from the body.

The contrast between the real world and dream world in which Freddy uses to get to the victims is very different. In Freddy's nigh mare world it is very dark with low key lighting and pipes dripping.

Which aspects of the film would you like to include in your own trailer? Why?
This film helped me understand collision cutting and how effect and dramatic it make a scene. I would like to include this aspect in my trailer as this film has shown me how its builds tension and adds excitement and confusion. I would also like to include the 'final girl' 'girl victim' theory as it relates to the context of rise of feminism and the power of woman. Horror often conveys this pro woman ideology. For example not all woman are 'weak' and 'scared' some have courage to fight through to the end of the movie.

Which aspects of the film would you like to avoid in your own trailer? Why?

I am going to avoid having a fictional character in my trailer as this takes the reality away from the film and wont have the same effect as a real life psycho killer. The closer to real life a horror film is the more effect it has on the audience and they leave the film still feeling nervous that this could happen to them.

What was the best aspect/more enjoyable moment in the film? Why? Can you recreate this in your own film? How?
